		John Hiemstra Official Artist San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival John has been drawing and painting since childhood. While attending Interlochen Arts Academy, where he studied design and production for the performing arts, creative writing and visual art, john discovered he could draw and paint for a living, and has been pursuing this goal one way or another ever since. John met his wife, metalsmith Heather Reilly, in 1996, as he was starting his first business in custom woodworking in San Francisco.
	After studying scenic art and design at North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, NC in 1998 and 1999, John and Heather moved to San Diego's historic Sherman Heights neighborhood, where they live today with their son, Hunter James, born 20 September 2005, four cats and one dog. John obtained his contractor's license in 2003, when he began to focus exclusively on his current private contracting and art services business. John works both out of his home studio and on location, wherever there is interesting work to be found.
