Tyler Heck

Winemaker - John Tyler Wines

The first names of John Bacigalupi and Tyler Heck were joined to create this label. The name John Tyler represents the union of two families who have been involved more than five decades in winemaking and grape-growing tradition in Sonoma County. John Tyler wines are the end result of the Bacigalupi fruit and Tyler’s winemaking skills.  Tyler Heck is a meticulous winemaker who combines youthful enthusiasm with real world experience in California and Australian wineries. John Bacigalupi is the skilled farmer of the well-known Bacigalupi vineyards whose family name has been designated on many wine labels to proudly display the origin of the grapes. John Tyler Wines represent the joining together of two families whose traditions and vocations are extensively linked to the enology and viticulture industries.

A fourth-generation winemaker, Tyler Heck has developed many skills and a deep understanding of the wine industry. He gained this knowledge early in his life from his father and mentor, Patrick. Tyler’s studies of enology, viticulture, and Ag business at both Fresno State University and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo have given him additional breadth and structure to the foundation gained at his father’s side. Both during and after Tyler’s graduation he was able to participate in industry internships and actual work experience at numerous diverse Californian and Australian winery and vineyard sites. Tyler’s formal education has been complemented by his father Patrick, who exposed him directly to the wine industries of California, the Pacific Northwest, Australia and Europe.

Tyler and his father developed a unique and personalized work profile, which has allowed him to acquire a broad knowledge of the wine industry and its practices, both locally and globally. Tyler’s experience has been diverse and extensive, ranging from large-scale corporate production to mid-sized partnerships to small-scale, family-owned boutique wineries. These facilities have been located in both Sonoma and Napa counties as well as several wine regions in Australia.

Growing up on the ranch and working in the vineyards as a young boy along side his father, John Bacigalupi came to love farming early in life. From the initial 12 acres of pinot noir and chardonnay John and his family have slowly and meticulously expanded to the existing 125 acres of premium grapes. As the acreage has been increased John has taken into account the appropriate combination of soil types, root stocks, micro- climates, and varietals of each vineyard. Consistently striving to improve farming practices, John has emphasized environmental soundness, sustainability, and efficiency, all without compromising quality.

A true farmer, John was born with a love for the outdoors and for the land he farms. An absolute perfectionist, John displays a strong desire to bring forth the finest fruit, (and now, the finest wines) that he possibly can.  Now John and Tyler can bring forth the full potential of these quality grapes in John Tyler Wines
