Stephen will be the first to admit that he has learned a majority of his vineyard and winery skills from some of the best in Paso Robles and the roots of the business from his father and grandfather. In 2001, Stephen designed and built a new 7000 sqft. winery and tasting room facility as well as a 8000 sqft event facility. While the project was under construction, he made his wine at Summerwood and Garretson Wineries. During this time Stephen became very close friends with Scott Hawley, Matt Garretson, Justin Smith, and Matt Trevisan. All of whom, Stephen says, played a huge part in who he is today as a wine grower, winemaker, and wine marketer!
The current case production for Silver Horse Winery is 2000. All of the wines have been sold through the tasting room and the wine club. Since the 2002 vintage, Silver Horse Wines have sold-out within 6 to 8 months of there release date.
Because the majority of the wines made at Silver Horse Winery are sold at Silver Horse Winery, Stephen started to develop another label in 2005 that could be sold outside the tasting room. The idea was to come up with new brand that would reflect Stephen’s winemaking and wine marketing skills and yet be more consumer friendly and have a great price point. Thus, the concept of the Nada Blanca and Nada Roja labels were born!
In 2006 Stephen presented the Nada concept to his buddy Justin who has a great understanding of the grape market and viticulture practices. The thought was with Stephen’s winemaking skills and Justin’s bulk market knowledge they could put together a brand that was varietally correct, fun, and cost effective. So they partnered up and formed the Way–Out Wine Company, LLC and their first brand Nada Wines!
