THE AMERICAN CULINARY FEDERATION TO JUDGE SAN DIEGO BAY WINE & FOOD FESTIVAL’S “CHEF OF THE FEST” COMPETITION

San Diego, CA (June 22, 2009) – The 6th Annual San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival, the largest wine and food extravaganza in Southern California, is pleased to announce its partnership with the American Culinary Federation (ACF) to judge the Festival’s “Chef of the Fest” Competition held November 21, 2009 at the Grand Tasting. A panel of ACF’s culinary elite judge 70 of San Diego’s finest chefs – tasting, critiquing, and scoring their exquisite cuisine, says Michelle Metter, the festival co-producer.

“With some of the nation’s finest chefs competing for over $50,000 in cash and prizes, this year’s ‘Chef of the Fest’ Competition is set to be an action-packed showdown of extraordinary culinary talent,” adds Metter. “The American Culinary Federation’s partnership with the Festival will result in a professionally judged competition by some of America’s top culinary professionals. Through a rigorous set of tasting guidelines and the ACF’s accredited judges, ‘Chef of the Fest’ competitors will be juried by chefs at the top of their craft.”

“San Diego is a mecca for fine dining, extraordinary cuisine, and world renowned chefs,” said William Ramsey CEC, CCA, president of the ACF Chefs and Culinarians of San Diego chapter. “The San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival creates an avenue for many of these chefs to showcase their talent and wow the judges with their use of fresh ingredients and culinary flare. We are excited to take part in the judging process, and cannot wait to see what the talented chefs of San Diego have in store for the competition.”

The “Chef of the Fest” Competition will take place at the San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival’s Grand Event on November 21, 2009. Chefs compete in one of five categories and are scored by tasting guidelines including presentation, flavor, innovation, quality of product, and preparation in the allotted time. Through a tiered judging process, one chef is selected as the best representation of innovative, fresh, flavorful cuisine and crowned “Chef of the Fest.”
