Michael Richmond
Winemaker - Bouchaine Vineyards
Michael Richmond is the Winemaker and General Manager/Vice President of Bouchaine Vineyards in Carneros, Napa Valley.
A native of Texas, Michael's career in wine began immediately after his arrival in the Napa Valley in 1970. At Freemark Abbey Winery , Michael worked in virtually all aspects of small winery operations.
In 1979, Michael and his long-time friend Larry Brooks co-founded Acacia Winery in Carneros. By 1986, Chalone Inc. had acquired Acacia Winery and Michael was appointed vice president of sales for the entire Chalone Group. In 1993, he was appointed Managing Director of Chalone's Carmenet winery. He created the Dynamite Cabernet brand for Carmenet shortly thereafter.

In late 2002, Michael was approached by Bouchaine Vineyards' proprietors, Tatiana and Gerret Copeland, about the newly created General Manager position at Bouchaine. Michael accepted, recognizing recognized Bouchaine's ability to produce exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that clearly showcase the beauty of Carneros wines. Since his hiring, he has also added winemaker to his title, directly responsible for the philosophy and creation of Bouchaine wines. In pursuit of his goal of making complex, varietally-true wines that show off their Carneros heritage and character, Michael has made extensive enhancements throughout the winemaking and cellaring process at Bouchaine.
Michael is a well-known and respected member of the Pinot Noir community. He was a co-founder of the ad hoc Steamboat Pinot Noir Conference , now in its 22 nd year. Michael is also on the Board of Directors of Carneros Quality Alliance (CQA) , the appellation organization that promotes Carneros wines and vineyards and provides quality-oriented education for its membership, and chairs the Community Outreach Committee of Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) , one of the most influential organizations in the wine industry. He is active in the Napa Valley community, currently serving on the Napa Valley Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
He and Theresa, his wife of 20 years, live in Carneros and have two daughters. Michael is an avid cyclist and outdoorsman who relishes the natural beauty of the surrounding Carneros hills and the Napa Valley.
