Though some 600 grape varietals are planted in Spain, 80 percent of the country's wine production comes from only 20 grapes including Tempranillo, Albariño, Garnacha, Palomino, Airen, Macabeo, Parellada, Xarel·lo, Cariñena and Monastrell. Spanish varietals have gained in popularity in the United States with many producers introducing their own interpretations.
How do Spanish varietals grown in Spain stack up against their American counterparts? Join moderator Lisa Redwine, for a head-to-head tasting and discussion.
In this class you will:
- Learn the primary Spanish grape varietals
- Learn how to read a Spanish wine label
- Taste from a cross section of Spanish varietals produced in Spain and the United States
