Cathlyn's Korean Food Challenge

A multi lingual, multi talented entrepreneur, composer, artist and TV show host, Cathlyn can be best described as an ‘All-in-One’ artist whose warm and friendly personality with background and knowledge of various cultures and cuisines appeal to a diverse audience of different nationalities and generations. A Korean by nationality, Cathlyn was born in Saigon, Vietnam on August 5, 1968. In 1974, her family moved to Brunei, where she lived, calling it home for 12 years.

Since age 11, Cathlyn developed a passion and sense for cooking by watching her mother and grandmother cook.  At age 13, she also helped her parents with their catering business in Brunei for 5 years. Cathlyn acquired a sophisticated palate through years of living and traveling throughout Asia and other European countries, sampling and cooking various kinds of cuisines.  Since then, Cathlyn has developed over a thousand traditional Korean and fusion recipes.

Proud of her Korean heritage, Cathlyn inspired her husband to help her produce her own TV cooking show in September, 2008 to create awareness of Korean foods and culture to non Koreans and 2nd generation Koreans living in the US.

In February 2009, the first Korean cooking show in the US was launched through KTSD Time Warner Cable Channel 12, a local TV station in San Diego.  Then in September of 2009, Cathlyn signed a contract with tvK24 and launched Season II of Cathlyn’s Korean Kitchen nationwide in November.  Season III titled Cathlyn’s Korean Food Challenge was launched on tvK24 in January, 2011 followed by PBS SoCal in July.  Season 4 is scheduled to air on national PBS in summer of 2012. All the background music on Cathlyn’s cooking show are originally composed, arranged and/or performed by Cathlyn.

Cathlyn also hosts cultural and live events in San Diego throughout the year as well as performs live culinary demonstrations at the Del Mar Fair, Asian Cultural Festival, Taste of Asia, Multi Cultural Food Festival, Taste of Korea, LA Times Food and Wine Festival and most recently at the Gourmet Experience Expo.
She is currently the Secretary General of San Diego Korean American Association and Vice Chair of Korean Women’s International Network. She also sits on the advisory board for Hansik Globalization Committee Los Angeles founded by Korea’s First Lady Kim Yoon-Ok and a food columnist for Hanin Community News Monthly Magazine San Diego and Korea Herald Business Los Angeles.

This unique cooking show, produced by Carma Media & Entertainment is hosted by Korean chef and musical artist Cathlyn Choi-Michelson, who showcases delicious, nutritious and easy to make traditional and fusion Korean cuisines.  She not only focuses on preparing some of the most exotic and tasty culinary dishes that will leave your mouth watering, but explores rich, historical Korean culture with the viewers, and how Korean food has played such an important role over the centuries.

On Season 3 titled, “Cathlyn’s Korean Food Challenge”, First, Cathlyn introduces some of the most popular Korean dishes. Various restaurants are then featured while profiling their executive chefs and signature dishes. Cathlyn then challenges the chefs to make the Korean recipes for the first time with her Magic 5 ingredient basket, after they taste the original food, blindfolded!
